Alternative Education Program
Students participate in Alternative Education in pursuit of one of four basic goals:
- Improve academic and social skills with a goal of returning to high school
- Earn course credits and receive a high school diploma
- Prepare to pass the G.E.D. exam (high school equivalency)
- Learn about career opportunities and improve employment skills
Program Overview
Classes are held Monday through Thursday, 10:30 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
Mondays/Wednesdays: Academic classes integrate Alternative Education students with those in our regular Adult Education program.
Tuesdays/Thursdays: Alternative Education students work together in a variety of group and enrichment activities, including field trips.
Fridays: Students may enroll in additional classes, participate in community service, work at a job, or be involved in job shadowing.

- Are between the ages of 16 and 20

Application Process
The Alternative Education program has limited spaces available. Students apply through referral by their regular high school or school superintendent’s office. Referrals from school personnel and student application forms are to be completed and delivered to the Saco Learning Center, where an interview is arranged. If an opening occurs, a new student may be invited to enroll.
