Materials List We ask that you wait to purchase any materials for your courses until three to five days before the start date. This insures that you do not purchase materials for a course that may be canceled. All materials to be purchased or fees to be paid to instructors are noted on this page. Advanced Beginner Stained Glass: Please bring safety glasses. A materials fee (amount will vary depending on type and amount of glass used) is to be paid to the instructor. Beginner Stained Glass: Please bring safety glasses. A materials fee of $20 is to be paid to the instructor. Body Sculpting with Balls & Bands: Please bring a towel or floor mat plus your own “stability exercise ball,” available at many stores. Exercise tubes and bands will be provided for use during class. Drawing Circle: Beginners & Beyond: Drawing pad, pencil-charcoal, soft or extra soft vine, Strathmore charcoal paper and a gum or kneaded rubber eraser. There will be a model fee of approximately $10 per session for two sessions to be discussed at first class. Golf (Beginner & Intermediate): Clubs are provided or bring your own. Please wear sneakers or golf shoes. No jeans or t-shirts allowed. Collared shirts required. Guitar: Required: nylon or steel stringed guitar, soft or medium picks, a tuner, and “Hal Leonard Guitar Method Complete Edition: Book 1, 2 & 3”, by Will Schmid and Greg Koch, Midtown Music, 282-0254, Biddeford, or Amazon.com (approx. $15). Introduction to Acrylics: Acrylic paint, tubes: black, white, red, yellow and blue (additional colors are helpful if you have them). Paper or board to paint on: possible choices include: canvas paper or board, masonite, heavy paper, mat board, etc. 12” X 16” or smaller. Brushes: Instructor suggests 1/4 and 1/2” flat bristle brushes, and perhaps several round soft brushes of various sizes. Container for water. Paper towels or rags for brush cleaning. Palette (to hold and mix paint): this can be a sheet of glass or plastic, an old white plate, a paper palette pad, a roll of freezer paper, etc. A disposable palette saves cleaning time and energy. Possible additional materials you might want to include: retarding gel (keeps your paint from drying too fast and lets you make smoother blends and lost and found edges more easily) and acrylic glaze medium (if you want to try an underpainting with overlying glazes). Introduction to Italian: The required book, “Hugo Italian in Three Months,” by Milena Reynolds, is available at Borders (approx. $15) and Amazon.com. Piano: Required: "Piano Adventures for the Older Beginner Lesson Book" and "Theory Book I for the Older Beginner" by Nancy & Randall Faber, available at Midtown Music, 282-0254, or Starbird Music, 775-2733, (book approx. $16). Students should have access to a keyboard for practice between classes. Quilting Made Easy/Yellow Brick Road Pattern: In class we will be making the baby-sized quilt which can also be a small lap quilt. Directions will be available for making a lap, twin, queen or king-sized quilt using this pattern. Basic sewing supplies: Thread, scissors (regular & snips), cutting board, rotary cutter, rotary cutting ruler, pins, other supplies you usually use. Sewing machines are available for use in the classroom. If you prefer to use your own machine, you can bring it. Irons are available in the classroom.
Riding Lessons (Beginner & Advanced): Riders must wear long pants and boots with a heel. Please complete the attached Rider Data & Risk Acknowledgement form and bring with you to the first session. Sea Glass Mosaics: Please bring the following to class: assorted sea glass; adhesive-transparent, white glue; your choice of project backings-these can be transparent (glass, sheet plastic, assorted bottles, jars, etc.), translucent (mirror, plastic, colored glass, etc.) or opaque (boxes, cardboard, wood, foam, metal wire wreath frames, picture frames, etc.), and scissors. Opaque backings will need a reflective coating to show the beauty of the glass, so will require additional materials of: colored metallic foil, fine mesh copper screening, copper wire and a darning needle. Student Art Show: Each piece must be well matted, sturdily framed, wired, and ready to hang. Temporary labels must be put on the front and back of each piece with: your name, name of painting, medium used, and price (if selling). Your framed artwork should not be any longer than four feet in any direction. A small opening reception will be held on Thursday, April 3rd, from 6:30-7:30 PM, at the library. Please invite your friends and family and bring a dessert to share. Violin: Bring your own instrument or rent one (available through Midtown Music in Biddeford). Watercolor: Please bring to class: 1 small tube each: Cadmium Yellow (light), Cobalt Blue, Windsor-Newton Red. 1 Round # 10 watercolor brush, 1” wide flat brush; 1 - drawing pencil #3B; 1 - eraser; 1 - light board or piece of cardboard and several sheets of Arches watercolor paper, 140 lb. cold press.
